Saturday 23 July, from 7:30pm till late
As a special “one-off” event Southampton Jazz Club is co-presenting with The Cellar the fabulous James Taylor Quartet, arguably one of the founders of what is now known as “Acid Jazz”.
The band is celebrating its 25th anniversary in a nationwide tour with a return to their earlier, earthy, downhome, funk/R&B/Jazz style. Guesting with James will be someone familiar to many jazz fans, flautist Gareth Lockrane. To quote from The Cellar’s Jonathan Green: This is heavy modern instrumental music at its best delivered by an act that is on top of its game and clearly enjoying themselves. Add to the mix the soulful angelic voice of UK’s great white hope ‘John Turrell’ and JTQ lay back into a mesmeric mellow groove. James Taylor keeps it swinging, fun and unpretentious Andy Robson, Jazzwise Taylor is one of our finest jazz organists... A musician who has forged his own path... His playing is snappy and crisp...
