It was exactly half a century ago that the American jazz trumpeter Miles Davis went into the Columbia studios to record what was to become the greatest selling jazz album of all time, Kind Of Blue, which featured saxophonists John Coltrane and Cannonball Adderley, pianists Bill Evans and Wynton Kelly, bassist Paul Chambers, and drummer Jimmy Cobb. 

Now Southampton-born pianist (and one of the founders of our club) Ray d’Inverno and his current sextet is to recreate the classic jazz tunes on the album, including So What, All Blues and Flamenco Sketches.
 
Ray tells us: “In a century of jazz music there have been a handful of seminal recordings which have served as milestones charting the history of our music, and Kind of Blue is undeniably one such recording. What our project hopes to achieve is to continue the spirit of the music as it was conceived, cool, brooding, and cerebral. The spirit of Miles lives on.”
