Michael Janisch is a top American bass player who studied under Ray Brown and has performed with jazz luminaries such as Quincy Jones, Shirley Horn and Clark Terry - and, since he came to live in the UK five years ago, some of our finest musicians including Tommy Smith, Jason Rebello, Tony Kofi and Gerard Precenser.

Tonight’s concert is part of a UK tour in which Michael has not only chosen some of the very best British jazz players, but also brought over from the US the acclaimed tenor saxist Joel Frahm and brilliant New York pianist Rick Germanson.

Michael tells us: “It will be an evening of super swinging rock-solid contemporary straight-ahead jazz full of surprises and fireworks, and most of all a lot of fun for the audience. Moreover, we'll be doing tributes to some of the great sax teams over the years, for instance Sonny Rollins and Sonny Stitt, and the UK’s Tubby Hayes and Ronnie Scott.

“It’s an expensive unit to run, but the last two years we've sold out the Pizza Express and Ronnie Scott’s and in jazz clubs all the way up and down the country. There’s so much demand, that’s why I keep it going.”

Tickets on the door: £13 (Members £10, Students £6)
