Clark Tracey Trio
Monday 17th September 2012, 8.30pm - 11pm
Clark Tracey started playing drums in a semi-professional capacity at the age of 13 turning fully professional at 17 when he joined his father’s various ensembles. He has since toured the world several times, recorded extensively, and set up his own record label, Tentoten Records, as well as Resteamed Records, a label dedicated to re-issuing material from Stan Tracey’s extensive back catalogue. He has also found time to take over at Herts Jazz Club in Welwyn Garden City, where he endeavours to promote young talent whenever possible. Not content with all that he has written a book, “Exploring Jazz Drums” published by Schott this July, which comes as a result of his role as a seemingly tireless jazz drum educator.
He formed the first of his own bands in 1981 with Django Bates, Iain Ballamy and Andrew Cleyndert. Subsequent bands have always read like a Who’s Who of the British jazz scene featuring Guy Barker, Nigel Hitchcock, Dave O’Higgins, Julian Arguelles and Zoe Rahman among many others and this evening’s trio members are no exception, the very talented Gareth Williams on keyboards and the ever-excellent Arnie Somogyi on bass. "Taking in tunes by Tubby Hayes, George Shearing, Victor Feldman, and Ray Noble, The Clark Tracey Trio not only showcases the talents of three of the country's most accomplished musicians, but also emphasizes just how rich in compositional talent the British jazz scene has always been." Jazz At Ronnie Scott's "It's a winning combination of first-rate playing and superior material."
