Welcome to Southampton Jazz Club’s web site.

We are one of the longest continuously running jazz clubs on the south coast, having been putting on jazz concerts featuring nationally and internationally renowned musicians for over 30 years.

For the last 18 years our concert venue has been the Arlott Bar of Southampton University. The club, however, is not run by the University but by a committee of local jazz enthusiasts, and is open to all members of the public.

The Arlott Bar is in University Road. First you will need to find a car park. If you head southwards down University Road from Burgess Road, and take the first right (Salisbury Road, just before the Nightingale Building) you will have a choice of car parks. Notices warn of wheel-clamping but they also state the time when this stops. You are normally safe parking after 6pm.

Having parked, walk on 100 metres down University Road until you see the Nuffield Theatre on your right. Immediately after this is a brick and glass building. The first door you come to is marked “38 Staff Social Centre.” The Arlott Bar is just inside.

Concerts begin at 8.30pm, doors open at 7.30pm, and there is no advance booking

We also hold monthly Jam Sessions at the Swan pub, 219 Portsmouth Road, Woolston (near Sholing Station), when jazz players of whatever standard can have the chance to play alongside a local semi-pro rhythm section in a friendly atmosphere.
